The United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy deemed Russia's military involvement in Abkhazia and South Ossetia as contrary to international law. They expressed concern that Moscow may fully annex South Ossetia. This joint statement was issued on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia war. European countries are also calling on Russia to stop its actions in these regions. In their opinion, these actions threaten regional stability.
